Research

Core Research Project

Diabetes is a common chronic condition with effective but often not implemented evidence-based interventions, such as diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES). Our Core Research Project plans to adapt and apply a precision implementation approach to improve the reach of DSMES programs across family medicine practices to improve access to DSMES. Using community-based participatory research (CBPR) methods we intend to not only improve the reach of DSMES programs but also improve patient and provider-reported outcomes related to DSMES. These methods will then be extended to other evidence-based interventions (EBIs).

Needs Assessment

As part of the CDC funding for the Pitt PRC, the Center conducted a needs assessment with multiple interest holders that included questions about 1) areas of expertise/assets; 2) educational, mentoring, and training needs, 3) learning preferences (e.g., asynchronous vs. live, in-person vs. online), and 4) communication preferences. This needs assessment will be repeated annually during the life of the Center.
